Virginia Unarmed SPO

Virginia DCJS Certified Unarmed Special Police Officers

 

Position Summary:

The unarmed Special Police Officer (SPO) will be responsible for protection of property and personnel. The SPO will have knowledge of point of entry screening, x-ray, and wand for contraband and weapons detection. Conducts roving patrols and responds to emergencies. The SPO writes reports documenting events. Candidate must be DCJS certified in the state of Virginia for multiple staffing sites in northern Virginia. Resumes and DCJS certificates are required with application.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Compliance with contract and post orders
  • Patrolling, observing, and response to emergencies
  • Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively
  • Familiar with Workforce management tools
  • Willing to perform AED/CPR/First Aid
  • Knowledge of x-ray screening and weapons detection
  • Ability to communicate clearly by radio and phone
  • Write clear concise reports and logs
  • Maintains a professional appearance
  • Ability to interact with the public in a professional manner
  • Ability to follow lawful orders
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays

 

Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate (GED); Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Police Science, or a related field is preferred
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a Certified SPO, Law Enforcement, Military/MP,SP,AP
  • U.S. Citizen
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to speak and understand English fluently
  • Knowledge of Law Enforcement and Security Operations
  • Red Cross First Aid/AED/CPR Certified
  • OC Spray
  • Baton
  • Provide and maintain valid Firearms Certification
  • DCJS Certified
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • May be required to work variable shifts as needed; at times during inclement weather; and when necessary, work extended periods without notice
  • Physically fit; must be able to lift, move, and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.; must be able to stand for a potential minimum 8 hour shift
  • Must pass comprehensive background investigation
  • Must pass a drug and alcohol screening

 

Salary:
